Katch How Community-Led Spaces Are Reshaping Urban Life in Saudi Arabia

In a world of busy schedules and constant notifications, Saudi cities are finding their social side again through spaces built for working, creating, and living together
Humans are social creatures by nature, thriving on connection, collaboration, and community. Yet many aspects of modern urban living seem to be pushing us further apart. Social media has made us less social than ever, office jobs keep us glued to screens instead of talking to people, and not knowing your neighbours has somehow become the norm. We’ve basically all turned into Boo Radley.
As Saudi Arabia’s urban landscape continues to evolve, some city dwellers are starting to reclaim a sense of community. Across real estate developments, members’ clubs, and offices, community-led environments are emerging as a key trend, bringing people together and creating that sense of belonging we crave.
In many ways, these spaces tie into Saudi Arabia’s long-standing values of unity and hospitality, almost serving as the modern majlis. They prove that no matter how much we evolve as a species, our need to gather, connect, and feel part of something bigger never really goes away.
In today’s blog, we take a closer look at how community-led spaces are reshaping how people work, stay, and play in the Kingdom’s modern cities.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Did you ever go to a friend’s house to study after school? Your parents always thought it was just another excuse to hang out, but you swore you worked better together. Well, you may have been onto something. Many studies support this theory, with a report by Stanford showing that people who worked collaboratively stuck with tasks 64% longer, felt more engaged, and experienced less fatigue than those working alone.
In recent years, many companies have moved away from the traditional 9-to-5, in-person office setup. For many of us, the pandemic marked a turning point, with businesses becoming more open to remote work and employees getting a little too comfortable working in sweatpants. While working from home continues to grow in popularity and the perks are undeniable, there are moments when you miss the casual chats with colleagues or those shared lunches that broke up the day.
As the region’s leading brand of flexible workspace solutions, Cloud Spaces is a company that’s all about bringing the social aspect back into the office environment. Created to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and businesses in the region, the brand balances wellbeing and productivity, with dynamic workspaces designed to make work feel more flexible and connected. With two premium flexible workspaces now open in Saudi Arabia, professionals can choose from coworking memberships, day passes, and fully furnished private offices.
Each workspace is built around connection and collaboration to help keep those creative ideas flowing. You might start the morning with an iced coffee from the speciality café, settle into a bright, fully serviced workspace, then find yourself deep in conversation as a quick catch-up in the meeting room turns into a full brainstorming session. By midday, there’s a workshop underway at the events space, someone’s taking a call out on the terrace, and the whole space carries that energising buzz that makes you want to get more done.

Ideas in Play
At Katch, we have always believed that creativity and collaboration go hand in hand. As a PR agency based in Riyadh, some of our best campaigns, brand collaborations, and events have come from us simply sitting in a room together and bouncing ideas off each other (coffee helps too). Sometimes you start with something small, and as everyone adds to it, it gathers momentum like a snowball until it becomes a fully realised plan ready to be pitched to the client.
Tucked inside Riyadh’s JAX District, Beast House is bursting with that same collaborative energy that creative ideas thrive on. Designed as a dedicated base for producers, designers, and music lovers, it has since evolved into the pulse of the capital’s contemporary creative scene. Inside, you’ll find a trendy hangout spot decked out with comfortable seating, neon lights, a coffee shop, DJ booths, and even professional music production facilities.
This eclectic members-only club is always finding new ways to bring the creative community together, playing host to regular workshops, DJ sets, open mic nights, and the weekly Brunshouka Saturday brunch. During Ramadan, the venue was at the centre of the city’s celebrations, introducing a full lineup of communal iftars and hands-on masterclasses designed to get people talking, sharing ideas, and embracing the spirit of the season.
Stay Connected
As much as we enjoy having our own personal space, humans aren’t programmed to live in isolation. It’s in our nature to seek community, with most of our ancestors living in small, tight-knit groups or tribes. In fact, research suggests we’re wired to meaningfully connect with around 150 people at a time, often referred to as Dunbar’s number, striking a balance between familiarity, trust, and a sense of belonging.
Nowadays, it’s not realistic for all of us to live in villages, and for many, big cities like Riyadh represent a land of opportunity and excitement. That said, a lot of people find these urban areas to be overstimulating, with glowing billboards, cars beeping, and bustling crowds constantly calling our attention. As much as we love the energy of city life, sometimes all the sights, sounds, and screens leave us thinking, ‘I need to go touch grass.’
As the Kingdom becomes increasingly focused on wellness, this community-first trend is starting to overflow into the local real estate and development market. For many, having access to community spaces, green areas, and walkable streets is becoming more valuable than a flashy penthouse in the city centre. As a result, the lifestyle-focused segment is predicted to outperform conventional residential real estate, growing at around 8% annually over the next five years.
We are already seeing examples of these lifestyle-led developments popping up across the Kingdom, with King Salman Park set to become the largest urban park in the world. Announced in 2019 as part of the Green Riyadh Initiative, it will feature expansive green spaces, open-air events, creative activities, and plenty of room to slow down and reconnect with nature. Elsewhere, giga projects such as Diriyah are also being shaped around a strong sense of community, creating walkable, culture-rich spaces where people can experience everyday life together.
The Way Forward
At the end of the day, we love our city and everything it has to offer. This isn’t a call to quit your job and move to a farm, it’s simply about following your instincts, staying social, and looking out for the people around you. And, with Vision 2030 shaping more community-driven spaces and new hubs giving us more reasons to gather, city life is starting to feel a little more human again. Because sometimes contentment really is as simple as a walk in nature, a good coffee, and a conversation shared.
